around vancouver

Kind of a random assortment of photos taken over the past month. The first two are from one of the [few] really warm days we’ve had when I walked to English Bay with Bryan. The rest are a bit more random and mainly from some time spent in East Vancouver, culminating in a backyard farewell party and bonfire for my friend Genta before he headed off on an adventure up north.
I spent most of Saturday and Sunday camping in the mountains with a bunch of friends and it was pretty amazing. We went swimming in the lake, cooked up some delicious camp food and had a really great time. I took a few photos which I hope to share soon. Hope everyone else had a nice weekend as well!

My mom, sister and I stopped in Chinatown for a bit on one of our days downtown. It was nice to walk around that neighbourhood a bit.. looking forward to going back a few more times before I head back to Delft [gotta get some egg tarts!]
Really enjoying the nice[r] weather we’ve been having lately. Oh and lots of fun stuff coming up too.. camping next weekend and my trip to Portland and the Oregon coast on the 28th!
thanks, vancouver

A week or so ago during the stretch of beautiful weather I took a few photos in random places in East Van.
I was trying to focus on shadows [although it's not really that apparent in the third photo]. One thing about my film camera is the view finder is so small, it’s sometimes hard to tell exactly what is in the frame or not… which meant some of my photos turned out not exactly how I had planned, and a little crooked.
So the Olympics are over. And I’m actually kind of sad about it [never thought I would say that]. After being downtown yesterday night, going back today things seemed like “normal Vancouver” again [ie. quiet and wayyyyy less people] .. it was a little bizarre. I have some more digital photos from my adventures downtown during the Olympics which I will post soon along with more of my feelings on the games. Hope everyone had a great weekend!
2009 part two: kingsway

The site for our final studio project was the Kingsway corridor, a 14km long arterial road running from Vancouver, through Burnaby and terminating in New Westminster. It’s a pretty auto-dominated landscape, and it’s easy to feel uncomfortable as a pedestrian walking on narrow sidewalks beside speeding trucks and cars, especially when most of the businesses along the street are either closed, or not very lively. But still, there are interesting things to see..
One afternoon, Laura and Rebecca, and I walked from Knight Street [the site for mine and Laura's project] to Joyce Street, where Rebecca’s site was.
make up your mind!
