Today is Canada Day! It’s still kind of surreal that I’m back in Vancouver already..
I took these photos just over a month ago at Granville Island before I left for Europe. I don’t have any big celebratory plans for today… still recovering for a bit of jet lag so I’m going to take it easy.
I’ll post more photos from my trip soon. Happy Canada Day to all the Canadians out there!
getting ready

That’s what my bed looked like the other day. Thankfully I am 98% packed now and my room is a bit more organized. I had a pretty hectic weekend trying to get everything together for the trip. I ended up buying a new lens for my DSLR yesterday which I’m pretty excited to try out! It was really cheap [as far as lenses go] and I’ve read good things about it.. so far I like it. Also my mom thinks its a bad idea to bring 3 cameras with me. I’m still going to try and sneak my Olympus into my bag somehow.
Anyways, I won’t be posting for a bit.. as I’m heading to the airport early tomorrow. Ahhh. Next blog post will most likely be from Frankfurt. Hope everyone is having a nice week! Auf wiedersehen!
crepes + ed’s farewell

My friend Ed had a bunch of people over at his place last night for a farewell/crepe making gathering. He’s moving back to the states for a bit and then probably to the UK which sounds super exciting. It was actually a great idea, people brought all kinds of fillings and Federica had made over 100 [!!] crepes the night before. Ed was also trying to get rid of all his leftover liquor, which was interesting. I think Rebecca was checking out some strange monk-shaped bottle of something in the second picture. Anyways, it was fun and I wish I could have stayed longer but I have a ton of organizing to do this weekend. Today was laundry day.. tomorrow is packing.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I’m going to try and make the most of this drizzly Vancouver weather, if I can find the time!

I took these photos over a month ago! I can’t believe it.. it seems like just the other week. I really need to get the roll I’m working on finished and developed. Hopefully this weekend.. I’ve just been so busy with work, ack! I took these after my mom took me out for a bit of a celebration lunch downtown after my grad school acceptances. I’m definitely going to miss Vancouver’s mountains and harbour when I go off to school in the fall.
We had a big deadline today at work but thankfully that’s over with and I think everything turned out well. Definitely a relief!
Countdown is at 6 days! Hope everyone is having a nice week.
polaroid

I decided to experiment with the old polaroid camera this morning. I remember having some kind of camera like this when I was a kid that would spit out mini polaroids, it was the coolest thing, I wonder whatever happened to it…
Anyways I was super happy that the camera is still in working condition! The only bad part was there was a whole cartridge of 10 exposures already in the camera, but the battery cell had drained, so it pretty much rendered them useless. I have a few packs of film, but I’m going to try and be selective with my picture taking since polaroid film is kind of expensive [unfortunately]. I took this picture in my room, just to test things out.. [it's kind of a crappy photo].
I have a ton of stuff to do this weekend to get organized for my trip. It’s supposed to be a long weekend but I’m working Monday anyways.. which I actually don’t mind, seeing as I will be leaving in just over a week. I’m hoping that the weather will hold out and I’ll get a chance to go to the beach with some friends tomorrow or Monday after work. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
the lake

These are some more photos I took at Hastings Park a few weeks ago. The lake was really quiet and tranquil. I think I could have sat there for hours.
In exactly two weeks I will be flying to Frankfurt with my sister, mom and dad. I’m pretty excited about the trip, especially getting the chance to shoot some film in Europe! I also received a pack of polaroids that I ordered off eBay a little while back, so I’m anxious to see if my parents’ old camera still works. Happy Tuesday!
sunday at home

I spent the day today at home relaxing and helping my mom outside [and taking a few pictures.. with my digital camera this time]. It was really nice spending some time in the yard, I’m going to miss it for sure when I leave for school in August. And I’m glad I got outside today because I think the rain is going to return by tomorrow.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend and hopefully got the chance to enjoy some time outdoors!

I took these photos a few weeks ago in the Italian rain garden at Hastings Park. Hastings Park is really great. I think it’s definitely overlooked because most people associate the site with the PNE, Playland and the Pacific Colosseum but the park has a lake [which I have some pictures of to post later], Japanese garden, this Italian garden and a skate park. Anyways, I’m really glad Eric told me about it and I finally got to check it out.
Anyways, I’m slowly getting back into the zone at work. I’m doing the same research work I did last summer which is nice because I don’t really need to be retrained or anything haha. I bought some new rolls of film the other day so I just have to get out and start taking some photos! The weather has been awesome the past few days and I’m excited that it will probably stay that way over the weekend.. I think it’s almost beach time!
blossoms

I’m so glad the trees are still in bloom here in Vancouver! The first photo was taken by Laura’s place and I took the second one at UBC on my way to the bus after work.
I’m slowly starting to get back into the work routine, but the weather has been so nice lately the last thing I want to do it work! It’s kind of weird working at a university in summer time when there are hardly any students around. Hope everyone had a great weekend and nice mother’s day!
