homesick

I have to say this is probably one of the only times I’ll admit to missing the buckets of rain in British Columbia. I don’t really get homesick too often [thanks to the wonders of skype] but right now I’m really wishing I could teleport back to Vancouver for a few days. Missing home and all the good things and people that come with it.

Second half of my “year in review.” I’m back in Delft now after a pretty brutal day of flying, delays, turbulence and multiple landing attempts. Glad to be on the ground for a while. I love to travel but flying is not my favourite… was just reminded of that fact yesterday.
[1] made it back to Vancouver and spent a day downtown with my mom and sister [2] nothing beats driving on the Sea to Sky Highway after a great weekend camping [3] did a West Coast road trip with my family and stopped at Deception Pass [4] we spent a few days at Cannon Beach in Oregon, watching the fog roll in and out [5] and exploring the beach a bit [6] then it was off to Portland.. it was great, and pretty close to Vancouver.. will have to visit more often [7] my mom and I made a trip to Salt on my last full day in Vancouver [8] my sister came back to NL with me and we made a trip to London [9] back in NL we spent a day biking in the Hoge Veluwe Park and it was stunning [10] tired of lame/overpriced sushi in Delft we made our own [11] I went to Hong Kong with my studio and it was a sensory overload.. loved it! [12] on our last day we went to Tai O, a fishing village, which was an amazing contrast to the city.
Will share more photos from Tai O soon.. they turned out to be some of my favourite from the trip. Hope everyone is enjoying 2012 so far.
merry christmas!

I’m glad I was able to spend some time in Stanley Park with my mom before I left Vancouver to head back to school. We had a nice walk around the Seawall, around Beaver Lake, through the gardens and finished up by sharing some salmon and chips. Stanley Park is another one of those places where at times it’s really easy to forget you’re actually right in a major metropolis. I’m really envious of the great “indian summer” Vancouver is apparently having.. although I think we’re supposed to be getting a little more sun here over the next week.
Well school mode is finally starting to set in..looks like a lot of work ahead. Although I am pretty freaking excited that I booked my flight to Hong Kong last night! Our design studio is studying Hong Kong and will be making a project situated there for our graduation thesis and I’m really looking forward to learning about the city and paying it a visit in November.
I hope to find some time in the next few days to go and get some more film developed…I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do!

Still not quite settled into life back here in Delft so here are a few photos I took before I left Vancouver a couple of weeks ago. The weather here has been so schizophrenic over the past week I don’t seem to be able to adjust quickly enough and as a result I’ve been fighting off this semi-cold for the past few days. Not exactly the way I want to start the school year..
I still have quite a few photos from Oregon and Vancouver to get through.. I’ll try to post more regularly once I get back into the whole school routine.

On my last Saturday in Vancouver my mom and I spent the day downtown doing lots of really “vancouvery” things, like spending time in Stanley Park, and walking around Gastown and Chinatown. One of my favourite little spots in the city is the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese gardens. It’s one of a few places in the city where you can actually forget you’re in the middle of an urban area [at least for a while]. And when you do end up noticing the city again, the contrast is pretty amazing.
My sister only has three more full days with me here in NL and tomorrow we’re going to do something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time: Kröller-Müller museum and Hoge Veluwe National Park. I can’t believe school starts already next week, I’m hardly ready for it!

Kind of a random assortment of photos taken over the past month. The first two are from one of the [few] really warm days we’ve had when I walked to English Bay with Bryan. The rest are a bit more random and mainly from some time spent in East Vancouver, culminating in a backyard farewell party and bonfire for my friend Genta before he headed off on an adventure up north.
I spent most of Saturday and Sunday camping in the mountains with a bunch of friends and it was pretty amazing. We went swimming in the lake, cooked up some delicious camp food and had a really great time. I took a few photos which I hope to share soon. Hope everyone else had a nice weekend as well!

My mom, sister and I stopped in Chinatown for a bit on one of our days downtown. It was nice to walk around that neighbourhood a bit.. looking forward to going back a few more times before I head back to Delft [gotta get some egg tarts!]
Really enjoying the nice[r] weather we’ve been having lately. Oh and lots of fun stuff coming up too.. camping next weekend and my trip to Portland and the Oregon coast on the 28th!

I can’t believe all the Berlin photos I’ve been posting were taken 2 months ago! Yikes, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything more recent. But I just got a few rolls developed yesterday [finally]. I’ve been back in Vancouver now for just over two weeks and it’s been soo great. These photos were taken on the days I spent downtown with my mom and sister. We stayed overnight in a hotel with amazing views of Coal Habour and the mountains, did a bit of shopping and just enjoyed some time together.
I used my 28mm lens for these.. I think I’ll have to use it more often because I really like how these turned out. The weather in Vancouver has finally been summery over the past few days, hooray! Hoping it stays that way for the weekend… hope everyone is enjoying the summer!
