It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything here.. I blame it on work and bad weather for photography. These are some photos from Dresden, part of my vacation in Germany this past summer. Some big changes coming my way.. my time here in the Netherlands is finally coming to an end it seems. My internship is almost up and after that it looks like I’ll be heading back to Canada and see where things take me from there! I’m both excited and really anxious about the move. I’m really used to life here now so I think it will be a bit strange being back home at first but there are definitely some things I’ve missed since I’ve been living here. Anyways, I want to try to make the most of my last few months here so I will try to take as many photos as possible. Hope to share more soon.

It’s been forever since I’ve posted here.. but I’ve still be taking lots of photos.. I’m just terribly behind with sharing and developing them. I was going to make a post this morning when I realized all the photos that were scanned on to the last CD I got were cropped incorrectly so I think I’ll scan them myself before sharing them.. might be a few days though. Here’s a little teaser from my Berlin trip. Anyways, I’ve been back to Vancouver for a month to visit and work and now I’m back in NL on the job hunt. Hope the fall has been treating you well!

Our trip to Paris was great, although a little short. We decided taking the train was the best option since you can get it direct from Rotterdam which is definitely more convenient and relaxing than flying [for me at least]. Although we were only there Wednesday-Saturday early afternoon we managed to see and do a lot.. including finding reasonably-priced and good quality sushi. Japanese food is pretty much my favourite and here in the Netherlands it’s usually super overpriced and underwhelming [compared to what I'm used to in Vancouver at least], so I’m always super excited to have sushi when I travel. More photos to come.. these are just a few street shots taken on the first afternoon there. Couldn’t have asked for better weather!

I can’t believe all the Berlin photos I’ve been posting were taken 2 months ago! Yikes, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything more recent. But I just got a few rolls developed yesterday [finally]. I’ve been back in Vancouver now for just over two weeks and it’s been soo great. These photos were taken on the days I spent downtown with my mom and sister. We stayed overnight in a hotel with amazing views of Coal Habour and the mountains, did a bit of shopping and just enjoyed some time together.
I used my 28mm lens for these.. I think I’ll have to use it more often because I really like how these turned out. The weather in Vancouver has finally been summery over the past few days, hooray! Hoping it stays that way for the weekend… hope everyone is enjoying the summer!

Still working through these Berlin photos but I’m getting there. These are from the second day [Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag + Holocaust Memorial]. For some reason now you have to make an appointment online if you want to go up into the dome of the Reichstag.. lame! I had no idea so we missed out on that one.. another time I suppose.
In exactly one week I will be at Schiphol airport.. waiting to head home to Vancouver!!

One of the reasons I wanted to go to Berlin was to do a bit of research on the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel for my architectural history thesis. All of the pictures in this set are Schinkel related and I think his buildings are pretty amazing [from top: Schinkelplatz, Schauspielhaus, Friedrichswerder Kirche x2, Neue Wache, Schloßbrücke, Altes Museum]. It was really nice to go into his buildings and spend some time observing and sketching them. Hopefully the experience will help with the paper I have to write over the next few months!
This weekend is the last weekend that I can semi-relax before things start to get really crazy. I probably won’t do much relaxing actually.. too much to do. But I’m taking tonight off. Happy Friday!

Seems like these London photos are never-ending! Getting there though….
After paying a quick visit to Buckingham Palace, we walked to Big Ben/Westminster Abbey/Houses of Parliament. We walked around a bit and then headed back onto the tube and made our way to the Shoreditch area for some yummy Vietnamese food for dinner.
I had a pretty amazing weekend. A bunch of friends came over on Saturday for my birthday party and it was great fun. On Sunday I headed to Amsterdam and spent the day walking around and soaking up the sun. I’m looking forward to the rest of my time off too.. some bike trips around NL are in the works… can’t wait to get out and enjoy more of the great weather we’ve been having!

I decided to take a break from the London photos, although I’m nearly through with them. A couple of weeks ago I got the opportunity to spend some time inside an old, abandoned faculty building for one of my courses. We’ll be doing a project on it and I think hopefully get another chance to go inside [next time I'm bringing a full roll of film!]. I really love exploring places like this but rarely get the chance. It was an amazing place to wander in and it left me trying to imagine what it would have been like when it was fully functioning. The lecture halls were beautiful [and kind of churchy, actually], I would way rather attend lectures in here than our current building!
I made a little trip to The Hague today to take care of some forms so I can vote in the upcoming election from over here. This article sums up the Canadian political situation quite well. I’m hoping for a fresh start with a new government come May 3rd!
